France’s remarkable scientific, technological and industrial heritage demonstrates its rich history in IT and computer science. The preservation of this heritage is as of today distributed over the country’s territory, and handled by a multitude of private, public or non-profit organizations. To celebrate the European Heritage Days of 2025, a number of actors will for the second year in a row organize a rich program on the subject of IT and its history. The ultimate goal is the creation of a National Museum for computer science. [version française]

⚪ Bull and Unit Record equipment museum in Belfort
Neither touchscreen nor any keyboard with an « @ »-key will be on display in this museum. Rather expect huge machines of another era like you used to see them in a unit record equipment workshop. You will discover working devices like the « Pelerod » punch card reader, the « trad 80 » translator, the « E12 » sorting machine or the amazing « BS 120 » tabulating machine. Literally the Rolls-Royce of its time, it was able to print 150 lines per minute, the world record between 1934 and 1951! The other half of the museum exhibits a large selection of typing and printing devices that were manufactured in Belfort between 1960 and 1992, as well as Bull’s very first tabulating machine « Mathilde ». The non-profit organizations’s sole objective is to preserve its unique, rich and functional heritage.
